We are looking for an experienced Principal Project Manager to lead the development and delivery of a brand-new travel pass scheme for young people as part of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s (SYMCA) vision for a more accessible and connected transport network. This high-profile role involves working closely with senior leaders, directors, multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with strategic timelines, governance requirements, and regional priorities.
This Is An Exciting Time To Join The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) As We Deliver a Transformational Programme Of Transport Investment Across The Region Including
- Bus Franchising – Transforming how buses operate across the region.
- Transport Capital Programme – Delivering new and improved infrastructure including park & ride, mobility hubs, EV fleets, and more.
- Supertram Renewals – Upgrading tracks, fleets, depots, and passenger facilities.
This Principal Project Manager role will focus on the delivery of an ambitious project delivering a young persons’ travel pass scheme, offering an opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, and make a tangible impact on the future of transport for young people in South Yorkshire.

About The Role
As a Principal Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering this ambitious project from inception to completion. You will be responsible for ensuring the project is delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, partners, and delivery teams, driving collaboration, managing risks, and ensuring that projects achieve their intended outcomes and benefits.

You will oversee all aspects of project delivery, including project planning, governance, business case development, procurement, contract management, risk management and reporting. Providing expert project leadership you will ensure the project aligns with organisational objectives, funding requirements and governance frameworks.
About You
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced project management professional with a successful track record of delivering complex projects within a large organisation, ideally within transport, infrastructure, or related environment.
You will have strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple organisations and disciplines. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, solving complex problems and providing clear, evidence-based advice to senior decision-makers.
You will bring excellent communication skills, commercial awareness and a proactive approach to project delivery, ensuring that projects achieve their intended outcomes and benefits.
Most importantly, you will be passionate about delivering high-quality projects that make a real difference to communities across South Yorkshire.
