Principal Rust Engineer — ML Infrastructure (AI Training)
About The Role
What if your mastery of Rust could directly shape the infrastructure powering the next generation of AI models? We're looking for a Principal Rust Engineer to build and optimize the high-performance systems that leading AI labs depend on — from data pipelines and annotation tooling to evaluation infrastructure that drives model quality at scale.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role for engineers who know Rust deeply and want to work on problems that actually matter. You'll collaborate directly with research and engineering teams at the frontier of AI development.
Organization: Alignerr
Type: Hourly Contract
Location: Remote
Commitment: 20–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and optimize high-performance Rust systems supporting AI data pipelines and model evaluation workflows
- Develop full-stack tooling and backend services for large-scale data annotation, validation, and quality control
- Improve reliability, performance, and safety across production Rust codebases
- Identify bottlenecks and edge cases in data and system behavior, then implement scalable, lasting fixes
- Collaborate with data, research, and engineering teams to accelerate model training and evaluation workflows
- Participate in synchronous design reviews to iterate on architecture and implementation decisions

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
