The Role
As a Principal Sales Engineer, you will work side by side with our sales team on engaging and interactive customer-focused meetings, demonstrations, and proof of concepts that articulate the business and technical value a customer will receive from our solutions.
You will have the opportunity to exercise deep technical and consultative skills while leveraging your soft skills to engage with customers throughout all pre-sales phases of customer engagement.
You will work with customer teams, from C-level executives to developers, rapidly understanding a customer’s technical needs, how it enables their business initiatives, and deliver back an insightful and innovative solution that targets those needs.
Responsibilities
- Business and technology delivery of various pre-sales activities including; planning/developing/delivering conceptual solution demonstrations and presentations, providing technical/product guidance to customers/partners/team, hands-on delivery of proof of concepts, and responding to RfXs.
- Work together with other team members, Product Management and Product/Platform Engineering and Support in providing the right deep technical expertise for our prospects and customers.
- Lead or assist team members in building out demos of our solutions and platform capabilities.
- Embrace the collaborative culture in Ping by helping out other team members no matter which region they are in, ensuring we succeed as a company.
- Guarantee a continuous handover between the teams when navigating between pre- and post-sales phases.
- Act as pre-sales lead for prospect opportunities working with other Ping teams and partners and Account Executive to convert the prospect into a customer.
- The travel volume is 20-30%. This will mostly be in the UK but may also involve EMEA-wide travel occasionally.

Skills & Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in a solution pre-sales role.
- Expertise of working with Identity & Access Management (IAM) solutions in or with enterprise organizations.
- Working knowledge of IAM-related protocols and formats such as: OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, SCIM, LDAP, JSON, XML, SQL, etc.
- Experience with installation and configuration of one or more IAM technologies from: Ping Identity, Ping, CA, Oracle, IBM, Novell/NetIQ/Microfocus, or similar.
- Experience acting as a recognized leader, providing guidance and support for the extended Sales Engineering team, and handling the most complex and difficult sales opportunities.
- Commercial consultative skills, ability to interface with various levels including architects, developers, managers, CTO, and engineering.
- Ability to work with a high level of self-direction and/or collaboratively with other teams within Ping Identity.
- Ability to relate proposed solution technical capabilities back to customer needs in a narrative style.
- Competency with scripting languages (JavaScript, Groovy, etc.), RESTful Web Services, and web development frameworks such as Node.JS and Vue.js.
- Deep product and technical expertise, with the ability to independently run a Proof of Concept to successful completion.
- Ability to lead a meeting across all different personas, e.g., C-Level, Business owners, Architects, and Developers.
- Developing and delivering technical presentations, workshops, customized demonstrations, and proof of concepts.
- General networking concepts and technologies such as: TCP/IP, HTTP/S, routing, load balancers, proxies, etc.
- Cloud Platforms - AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
