Exciting Opportunity: Principal Scientist MSAT
Are you an experienced bioprocessing scientist looking to work at the interface of development and manufacturing? This organisation is seeking a Principal Scientist (MSAT) to lead complex projects, support process scale-up, and drive successful delivery into GMP manufacturing environments.

About the Organisation
You’ll be joining an established organisation supporting the development and manufacture of advanced pharmaceutical products. The business collaborates with partners across the product lifecycle, from early-stage development through to GMP manufacturing, with a focus on delivering high-quality, scalable processes.
The MSAT (Manufacturing Science & Technology) team plays a key role in bridging development and manufacturing, ensuring processes are robust, transferable, and suitable for commercial production. The environment is highly collaborative, offering strong technical ownership and exposure to multidisciplinary project teams.
The Role of the Principal Scientist – MSAT
In this role, you will act as a technical lead on complex programmes, supporting the transfer and scale-up of bioprocesses into GMP manufacture. You’ll combine strong scientific expertise with project delivery, ensuring processes are implemented effectively and meet quality and regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Leading process transfer and scale-up activities into GMP manufacturing environments
- Preparing and reviewing technical documentation, including process descriptions, change controls, and risk assessments
- Planning and overseeing experimental and pilot-scale studies, with responsibility for data interpretation and reporting
- Ensuring processes are robust, scalable, and suitable for manufacturing operations
- Working cross-functionally with operations, quality, engineering, and supply chain teams
- Supporting investigations, including deviations, root cause analysis, and impact assessments
The Ideal Candidate for the Principal Scientist – MSAT Role
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A degree (or higher) in a scientific or engineering discipline, with strong, recent industry experience
- Proven, recent expertise in bioprocessing, including upstream and/or downstream operations
- Recent exposure to process transfer, MSAT, or manufacturing support environments
- Recent experience within biologics or advanced therapeutic development
- Experience working within a GMP environment, ideally supporting manufacturing or scale-up activities
- Demonstrated ability to lead or contribute to complex technical projects
- Strong problem-solving skills and data interpretation capability
- Excellent communication skills and experience working across multidisciplinary teams
- Previous mentoring or informal leadership experience
