Principal/Senior Hydrologist – Water Management Division

About the Role
We are currently seeking a Principal/Senior Hydrologist to join our Water Management division in the UK. Our projects are technically demanding and diverse, offering excellent opportunities for professional growth and development. The role involves working with key UK regulators such as the Environment Agency, alongside Network Rail, National Highways, Local Government, and private developers as well as acting as technical lead on a variety of schemes. Collaborative, proactive and creative thinking will be integral to your day-to-day responsibilities.
You will lead initiatives with an emphasis on transparency, impact and innovation.
Role Accountabilities
- Setting the technical direction for hydrological studies
- Estimating design flood flows and hydrographs for complex projects
- Providing technical input for flood risk management and water resource projects
- Overseeing the production of flood risk assessments and Environmental Impact Assessments (including Water Resource chapters)
- Managing project components, including time and resource management, team coordination, and quality assurance
- Supporting and leading project teams to achieve sector goals and standards, championing innovation and driving technical excellence
- Contributing to personal and team development, supporting staff to reach their full potential

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
-
Degree in an appropriate analytical discipline, including:
- Civil Engineering
- Geography
- Environmental Science
- Water Resources
- Engineering Hydrology

Proven technical leadership through:
- Application of hydrological methodologies (e.g., Flood Estimation Handbook guidance)
- Leading flood risk assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, and Environmental Statements

Skill in Quality Assurance (QA) procedures within similar projects

Competent use of ArcGIS Pro (ArcPro) and QGIS for hydrological modelling and spatial analysis

- Strong experience in report writing and technical communication
Desirable
- Experience in water resource assessments
- Familiarity with Surface Water Management Plans (SuDS)
- Experience with team and line management at senior levels
