Principal Social Worker

Salary: £64,844 - £68,987 per annum

Hours per week: 37 hours

Interview date: Monday 06 July 2026

About the Role

We are looking for an exceptional and experienced social work leader to take on the role of Principal Social Worker, someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for children, young people and families, and who can influence practice at a strategic level.

This is a unique opportunity to join a forward-thinking local authority on a strong improvement journey, working as part of an extended leadership team within Families and Childrens Services. You will shape the future of social work practice, drive innovation, and work collaboratively with senior leaders, partners and national networks. You will benefit from working in a supportive, high-performing environment that values continuous learning, professional development and career progression, while contributing to meaningful change across a large and ambitious organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of professional standards, practice frameworks and workforce development strategies.
  • Oversee quality assurance and performance improvement activity, using data, audit and feedback to drive excellence in practice.
  • Provide expert advice at a senior level, influence multi-agency safeguarding arrangements, and ensure learning is translated into measurable service improvement.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
