Principal Software Architect (.NET & Cloud Platforms)
📍 Location: Full Remote UK
💰 Salary: Up to £120,000

The Company
A market-leading software business operating within a highly mission-critical environment is entering a significant growth and platform transformation phase.
Having established itself as a trusted technology partner within its sector, the organisation is now investing heavily in modernising its core platform, expanding internationally, and evolving its engineering capabilities to support the next stage of growth.
As part of this journey, they are looking to appoint a Principal Architect to define the future technical direction of the platform and drive the transition toward a modern, scalable, cloud-native architecture.
What You'll Be Doing
- Define and evolve the long-term platform architecture strategy
- Lead the transition from legacy systems to modern cloud-native architectures
- Design scalable, API-first platforms capable of supporting international growth
- Establish architectural principles, standards, and governance across engineering teams
- Partner with engineering leadership to align technical strategy with commercial objectives
- Provide hands-on technical guidance through architecture reviews, design sessions, and mentoring
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, automation, and cloud-native delivery models
- Lead architectural decisions across application, cloud, security, integration, and platform domains
- Guide database modernisation and data architecture evolution
- Collaborate with DevOps teams on infrastructure scalability, observability, and deployment strategies
- Champion security, identity management, and compliance best practices across the platform
- Support the evolution of mobile and digital platform architecture where required
- Mentor architects and senior engineers, creating a culture of technical excellence

What They're Looking For
- Proven experience operating as a Principal Architect, Lead Architect, or Chief Architect within complex software environments
- Strong background in modern C# /.NET architecture, including legacy modernisation initiatives
- Experience designing large-scale, highly available SaaS or enterprise platforms
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native design patterns
- Strong experience with AWS or similar cloud environments
- Expertise in software architecture, application modernisation, and technical governance
- Strong understanding of security, authentication, identity management, and enterprise-grade platform design
- Experience leading architecture within scaling technology businesses
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and engineering teams without direct authority
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance technical excellence with business priorities
