About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Software Developer to join Raytheon’s dynamic team focused on transforming military training systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of secure, scalable, and cloud-native software solutions that support the British Army's collective training initiatives. Based in Warminster, Wiltshire, with a hybrid working model, the successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and maintain innovative software applications that enhance operational readiness and training effectiveness. The role is integral to supporting Raytheon’s mission of delivering cutting-edge defense technology, ensuring the British Army remains prepared to meet future challenges.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in full-stack software development, with at least five years of professional experience. A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred, alongside professional certifications in relevant technologies. The candidate should demonstrate proficiency in modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular, and backend technologies including Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, or .NET Core/.NET 5+. Experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes is essential. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or MODCloud (OCP), along with experience deploying and managing cloud-native applications, is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), static and dynamic code analysis tools, and RESTful API development is also required. Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain a current SC security clearance.

Responsibilities
- Build secure, high-performance backend services using languages such as Node.js, Python, Java, or .NET Core/.NET 5+, ensuring robustness and scalability.
- Integrate APIs, databases, and third-party services to facilitate seamless data exchange and system interoperability.
- Develop and maintain intuitive frontend interfaces utilizing modern frameworks like React or Angular.
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable, cloud-native software solutions leveraging cloud services and infrastructure, with a focus on security and resilience.
- Utilize Docker and Kubernetes to containerize applications, enabling consistent deployment across various environments including Red Hat OpenShift.
- Automate build, test, and deployment processes using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or CloudFormation to manage infrastructure provisioning and configuration.
- Participate in agile planning, estimation, and delivery activities, supporting continuous improvement within the team.
- Conduct peer code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, performance optimization, and maintainability, including static analysis with tools like SonarQube.
- Contribute to the development of automated testing suites for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing to ensure software quality.
- Design solutions with observability in mind, integrating logging, metrics, and tracing for system health monitoring.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices to continually enhance development processes.
- Monitor and respond to security vulnerabilities, ensuring compliance with relevant standards such as OWASP and NIST.
