About The Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Software Developer to join Raytheon’s dynamic team, supporting the transformation of British Army training systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to national defense by developing scalable, secure, and cloud-native software solutions that enhance military training capabilities. Based in Warminster, Wiltshire, with hybrid working arrangements, the successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including technical leads, architects, and engineers, to deliver innovative solutions aligned with strategic military objectives. The role is integral to modernizing and integrating legacy systems, leveraging emerging technologies, and supporting the Army Collective Training Service (ACTS) program to ensure operational readiness and effectiveness.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years of experience in full-stack software development, with expertise across modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular, and backend technologies including Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, or .NET Core/.NET 5+. Proven experience with containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes is essential. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or MODCloud (OCP), and familiarity with deploying and managing cloud-native applications. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps, alongside Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, is required. Additionally, experience with static and dynamic code analysis tools, RESTful API development, and security standards such as OWASP and NIST is highly desirable. A current SC security clearance or the ability to obtain one is also necessary.

Responsibilities
- Build secure, high-performance backend services utilizing languages such as Node.js, Python, Java, or.NET Core/.NET 5+.
- Integrate APIs, databases, and third-party services to ensure seamless data flow and system interoperability.
- Develop and maintain responsive frontend interfaces using modern frameworks like React or Angular.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, cloud-first software solutions leveraging cloud-native services and infrastructure.
- Utilize Docker and Kubernetes to containerize applications, ensuring consistency across development, testing, and deployment environments, including Red Hat OpenShift.
- Automate build, testing, and deployment workflows using industry-standard tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices with tools like Terraform or CloudFormation to automate infrastructure provisioning.
- Participate in agile planning, estimation, and development activities, supporting continuous delivery and improvement.
- Conduct peer code reviews, enforce coding standards, and optimize code performance and maintainability using static analysis tools like SonarQube.
- Contribute to the development of automated testing frameworks for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing to ensure software quality.
- Design solutions with observability in mind, integrating logging, metrics, and tracing to monitor system health and performance.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to continuously enhance technical capabilities.
- Monitor security vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with relevant security standards and policies.
