Investment. Tech. Freedom. Ambition.

At Intrum, technology is transforming the way we support customers and clients across the financial ecosystem. We are investing in modern platforms, intelligent automation, AI-enabled capabilities, and engineering excellence to create secure, scalable, and insight-led digital solutions.

We are looking for a Principal Software Development Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our customer-facing digital platforms and technology solutions. This is an opportunity to guide technical direction at scale, influence engineering strategy, and build resilient customer-facing platforms that make a real impact within a highly regulated environment, while creating a culture of enablement where engineers are empowered to innovate, learn and deliver their best work.

You will work across cloud-native architectures, microservices, AI-assisted engineering practices, and modern DevSecOps delivery models - collaborating with talented engineers, product teams, and senior stakeholders to support innovation and operational excellence.

This role has the added flexibility of hybrid working with travel to our UK offices in Manchester, Reigate or Glasgow, as required.

If you are passionate about modern engineering, thrive in complex environments, and want the freedom to shape how technology evolves, we would love to hear from you.

What you will do

  • Guide the architecture, design and development of scalable customer and client platforms, implementing cloud-native microservices, orchestration layers and serverless solutions across AWS and Azure, including AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, APIs, event-driven services, AWS Connect, Genesys Cloud, payments, web portals, communications and collection services.
  • Set technical direction and engineering standards across teams, promoting modern cloud-native, serverless and AI-assisted engineering practices.
  • Mentor and support Software Development Engineers and Forward Deployed Engineers, building capability, promoting reusable engineering patterns, shared tooling and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Drive DevSecOps excellence through CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code using AWS SAM and CloudFormation, Database-as-Code (Redgate Flyway), automation frameworks and software quality practices.
  • Take ownership of critical customer systems, ensuring operational resilience through observability, monitoring, metrics, tracing, alerting, performance optimisation and rapid incident response.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Delivery, Operations and Commercial teams to shape technical solutions, delivery plans and strategic outcomes.
  • Champion secure-by-design, privacy-by-design and compliance-by-design principles, ensuring alignment with UK GDPR, FCA Consumer Duty and secure coding standards.
  • Guide the adoption of intelligent platform capabilities, including AI-enabled workflows, automation and smart customer engagement solutions.
  • Devoted to the FCA principle of Consumer Duty; by ensuring we are driving good customer outcomes across all aspects of services that have potential to impact our customers.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
