Principal Software Engineer
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Software Engineer based in the United Kingdom.
This is an opportunity to join a high-impact engineering team building security solutions used by millions of people worldwide. In this role, you will lead the technical direction of innovative browser-based security products, solving complex engineering challenges and delivering scalable features that protect users from evolving digital threats. You will have significant autonomy to influence architecture, design decisions, and engineering practices while collaborating with talented teams across product, UX, QA, and development. The position is ideal for a senior technical leader who enjoys building reliable software, mentoring engineers, and applying modern technologies to create meaningful customer impact. You will work in a collaborative environment where innovation, ownership, and engineering excellence are highly valued.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and deliver advanced security features for a widely used browser protection platform.
- Drive technical architecture, system design decisions, and long-term engineering direction for scalable software solutions.
- Build and maintain high-quality applications using modern engineering practices, focusing on reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Solve complex technical challenges by applying strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and software design principles.
- Develop integrations across products and systems to create seamless and secure user experiences.
- Collaborate closely with Product, UX, QA, and Engineering teams to deliver strategic roadmap initiatives.
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and best practice adoption.
- Promote engineering excellence by improving development workflows, testing practices, and code quality standards.
- Leverage AI-powered development tools and workflows to improve productivity while maintaining strong technical standards.

Requirements:
- Extensive experience building scalable, product-focused software applications used by large user bases.
- Strong hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, and Go.
- Deep understanding of software architecture, system design, algorithms, data structures, and engineering best practices.
- Proven experience designing and scaling complex applications and platforms.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools and integrating modern workflows into software engineering practices.
- Strong focus on writing clean, maintainable, testable, and high-quality code.
- Experience with Git, code reviews, and collaborative software development processes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions and mentor other engineers.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to independently solve complex technical challenges.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within distributed, cross-functional engineering teams.
