Job Description
In this role, you will:
- Translate functional requirements into robust, detailed software designs
- Ensure thorough testing as part of the integrated system solution
- Work with high ownership and initiative, with minimal supervision
You’ll be expected to deliver products across the full engineering design lifecycle—from concept to implementation, integration, and validation.
Core Duties
- Design and develop innovative, high-quality control systems software, adhering to recognised industry standards
- Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team, using tools and programming languages (SCL, Ladder, CTRL) throughout the software development lifecycle
- Oversee and support the work of junior team members, providing technical guidance
- Lead assurance and review activities, ensuring compliance with relevant standards for configuration, releases, and documentation
- Translate functional requirements into software designs, test solutions, and manage integration, deployment, and product releases

Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Software Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, or a related discipline
- Chartered status with a relevant professional institution or demonstrable competence equivalent to chartered level
- Knowledge/experience of software development lifecycles (e.g., Agile, V model)
- Hands-on experience with Siemens TIA Portal and/or WinCC OA
- Familiarity with industry safety/standards (e.g., IEC 61508-3, 61511, 62443, 61131) is considered advantageous
The Team & Opelportunities
The PMS C&I Software Team supports the UK’s MoD, focusing on underwater superiority. Your role could involve:
- Design, build, and procurement of electronic/software systems aboard submarines
- Test, integration, and post-delivery support
- Engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence
