Principal Engineer – Platform Team (Accelerator Business)

As a **Principal Engineer in the Platform Team, you’ll be at the heart of innovation, driving the technical roadmap, securing scalability, and championing architectural best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership
- Define a competitive multi-year roadmap for platform engineering to ensure scalability and innovation.
- Drive long-term architectural strategy and strategy roads that deliver value to Chase’s accelerated business model.
- Create a metabolic environment: test features, iterate fast, and reduce risk.

Engineering Excellence
- Lead the design and delivery of secure, scalable, and encapsulated infrastructure systems.
- Implement "You Build It, You Run It" to independently maintain the long-term operational stability of production systems.
- Architect solutions driving violent automation of infrastructure and platform operations.

Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing
- Champions Software Engineering Communities of Practice and elevates the technical bar.
- Mentor and coach senior engineers, fostering growth and innovation within technical teams.

Strategic Stakeholder Collaboration
- Bridge the gap between business needs, product direction, technologists, and security executives.
- Translate technical decisions into measurable value and communicate effective outcomes.

Cost & Performance Optimization
- Lead FinOps practices to continually optimize cloud costs while championing resilient and performant systems.
- Shape distributed system architectures to tackle distributed latency, throughput, and caching challenges.
- Monitor platform health with DORA/SLI/SLO metrics—align systems to value-at-scale.
What We’re Looking For
Required Skills & Experience
- Formal education or certification (e.g., BSc, CKAD, Google Associate Cloud Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect).
- Expert administration of a major cloud platform (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
- Proven mastery in Kubernetes administration and operator patterns.
- Advanced networking expertise across layers of the OSI model.
- Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and cloud-native deployment tools.
- Hands-on experience in complex system design, development, testing, and operational stability.
- Advanced proficiency in **one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Go, Java, Kotlin).
- Demonstrated technical leadership, team collaboration, and the ability to share knowledge effectively.
- Hands-on security experience (e.g., Threat Modeling, Zero Trust practices).

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced CI/CD experience and socially responsible development paradigms.
- Debris-aware DevOps practices, e.g., SLSA Framework and GitOps.
- Deep experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OTEL).
- Skills in high-performance distributed systems optimization, e.g., caching, load balancing, SSL/TLS strategies.
- Familiarity with Service Mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd, Cilium).
- Proven ability to coach both junior and senior engineers.
- Experience defining long-term platform-backed vision.
- Strong stakeholder communication, roadmap design, and education strategies for technical evaluation.
