Principal Data Solution Architect
Up to £115,000 + Bonus + benefits Hybrid | Leeds, Dublin or London
We're working with a large, international technology business whose data platform sits at the core of how they deliver real-time digital experiences to a high-volume global customer base. They're mid-transformation, investing significantly in the distributed data infrastructure that underpins their products and this hire is central to that build.
The organisation is mid-transformation. The Principal Data Solution Architect joining now will design and deliver distributed data platforms from architecture through to production, working directly with application and engineering teams to make sure what gets built will be used.
Responsibilities as a Principal Data Solution Architect:
- Design and deliver distributed data platforms at scale, covering real-time streaming infrastructure, distributed compute, object storage, and SQL/NoSQL data stores
- Architect real-time streaming solutions using Kafka and Pulsar, ensuring low-latency data delivery to downstream applications
- Design data structures for distributed systems including Cassandra, optimising for read/write patterns, scalability, and performance
- Deliver cloud-native solutions on AWS, leveraging Databricks, S3, and distributed compute frameworks
- Work closely with application and engineering teams to understand data access patterns and translate them into scalable platform solutions
- Produce ADRs, data models, and technical designs that support delivery of business goals
- Create pragmatic technology roadmaps balancing near-term delivery with longer-term target state architecture
- Mentor engineers and architects on distributed data platform patterns
- Design with security, cost optimisation, performance, and regulatory compliance in mind throughout

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
