We’re growing our Structural team in London and looking for a Principal Structural Engineer who enjoys leading technically challenging projects, mentoring engineers and having genuine influence over delivery.
This is an opportunity to take a leading role across complex multidisciplinary projects in sectors including Aviation, Defence, Industrial, Custodial and Power. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and project teams delivering facilities and infrastructure where technical quality, collaboration and practical thinking genuinely matter.
At BakerHicks, Principal Engineers are trusted to lead. You will have the autonomy to shape solutions, support the development of others and play an important role in the continued growth of the structural capability within the business.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading structural design delivery across major projects and complex programmes of work
- Managing and supporting structural engineering teams across multiple project stages
- Acting as a senior technical reviewer and providing guidance across structural design activities
- Delivering practical, buildable and technically robust engineering solutions
- Coordinating closely with multidisciplinary design teams, clients and stakeholders
- Supporting project planning, fee proposals, resourcing and programme management
- Mentoring engineers and contributing to the growth and development of the wider team
- Driving high standards in technical quality, safety and project delivery
What We’re Looking For
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng MIStructE and/or MICE)
- Strong experience leading structural design delivery within consultancy environments
- Excellent understanding of UK structural design standards and assurance processes
- Experience delivering projects involving steel, concrete, masonry and foundation design
- Ability to lead teams while remaining technically hands-on when needed
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Commercial awareness and experience managing project budgets and change control
- Experience working within multidisciplinary project environments

Experience within Aviation, Defence, Industrial, Manufacturing or Power projects would be beneficial, but is not essential.
