Location: Based at our Cyber Centre of Excellence in Maidenhead.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide cost estimates and lead times for test equipment development during the bid and proposal process.
- Lead and contribute to design-for-test activities to ensure product designs are optimised for testing.
- Define efficient and cost-effective test solutions for production and qualification testing of new products to support their development and production rollout.
- Design the test facility, including documentation (functional specifications, schematic drawings, calibration procedures, and user manuals) to enable efficient production and testing.
- Support the manufacture of the test facility, including procurement, assembly, and verification.
- Develop test software and firmware (e.g., NI LabVIEW/CVI, LVT-based test programs) required for the test facility.
- Commission the test facility, including identifying calibration needs, writing test calibration procedures, and ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., AS9100 when applicable).
- Create clear test procedures and documentation:
- Written test instructions.
- Brifios describing the procedure for using the developed equipment.
- Support documentation for production and qualification testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define interfacing protocols (e.g., Ethernet, I2C, SPI, JTAG) for software development.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing legacy test systems, including software or hardware.
- Adhere to information security protocols defined in the Ultra Security Manual.

Required Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in developing automated test programs using:
- National Instruments TestStand
- LabVIEW or CVI
- Strong experience in ‘C’-based programming.
- Technical expertise in:
- Creating basic 2D mechanical drawings for test facilities.
- Generating electrical circuit diagrams and wiring documentation for test boxes and cabling.
- Skills in creating detailed written step-by-step instructions for carrying out tests.
- Familiarity with standard office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio).
- Experience testing:
- FPGA-based digital products using LabVIEW or similar software.
- RF products up to 20 GHz (physical I/O, automation, and parametric testing).
- Experience with:
- Understanding complex mechanical/electrical/software interfaces.
Desirable Experience, Skills & Qualifications
(Bonus points for the following!)
- Experience with Ethernet, I^2C, SPI, RS-232, RS-485 interfaces testing.
- Knowledge of JTAG testing (e.g., using tools like JTAG Technologies Provision).
- Familiarity with AS9100 and DAOS processes.
Security Clearance
Note: Applicants must be prepared to follow security requirements:
- Security Clearance:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a UK Government Security Clearance (SC or DV level).
- SC: 5 years' UK residency.
- DV: 10 years' UK residency.
- Citizenship: English national who (for SC and DV clearance):
- Satisfies 5-year UK residency for SC clearance.
- Must have been* a UK resident and of sterling character** for 10 years (or, otherwise compliant with UKSP clearance rules).
