Our client, a privately owned UK-based company specialising in the development of Nickel Zinc battery technology is currently looking to hire a Principal Test and Evaluation Engineer. The successful candidate will lead and manage UK-based testing and evaluation initiatives for advanced submarine battery systems.
Are you an expert in battery systems testing looking to work on some of the UK's most advanced programmes?
We're seeking someone to lead the validation and testing of cutting-edge submarine battery systems. You'll be the technical authority for battery performance, safety, reliability, and fault testing, helping shape the future of naval energy storage technology.
What You'll Do:
- Lead battery testing programmes from planning through execution and reporting.
- Define and deliver test strategies for submarine battery systems.
- Oversee performance, thermal management, degradation, and safety evaluations.
- Manage complex testing activities including thermal runaway, short-circuit, and abuse testing.
- Lead technical investigations, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
- Act as the SME for battery testing, advising customers, suppliers, and engineering teams.
- Drive continuous improvement and influence future battery system design.
- Manage project budgets, resources, risks, and stakeholder reporting.

What We're Looking For:
- Degree-qualified Engineer (Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Systems or similar)
- Extensive experience with battery technologies in safety-critical applications
- Proven track record leading battery test programmes and qualification activities
- Strong understanding of battery system design, electrochemistry, and safety systems
- Experience developing test plans, procedures, and technical reports
- Systems Engineering and Verification & Validation (V&V) knowledge

Highly Desirable:
- Defence, naval, or submarine engineering experience
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
- Battery technology, electrochemistry, or energy storage postgraduate qualifications
- Test automation, data acquisition, and root cause analysis experience
