The Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an experienced Principal Transport Planner to join our growing Transport Planning team in our established London office as we seek to grow our presence in the greater London area to cater to our expanding list of developer and local authority clients in London and around the UK. The role would suit an experienced transport planner with a broad understanding of all elements of the profession, ideally with a focus on transport planning for development planning projects in London as well as the ability to work on major infrastructure and energy schemes through the Development Consent Order (DCO) process and public sector projects.
This is an exciting opportunity to help grow an established and reputable business, leading a diverse portfolio of transport planning projects across the region and nationwide.
Situated in a vibrant neighbourhood of central London, our office on Tottenham Street in Fitzrovia is surrounded by a diverse community of creative industries and cultural institutions. This lively setting provides the perfect backdrop for our team to engage with clients and collaborate on projects that help shape our city’s future.
The team in London delivers a wide and varied portfolio of work ranging from residential lead mixed use schemes and commercial and industrial projects, public sector studies and through to major infrastructure and energy schemes including solar, BESS, substations, overhead line upgrades, energy from waste, carbon capture, pumped hydro and water recycling and transfer projects.
Our team has a wealth of experience and will offer support with development opportunities and excellent advice. Working collaboratively amongst multidisciplinary teams, you will deliver a wide variety of project work and practice with a broad range of clients.

You will communicate and work collaboratively with project teams to provide high-quality deliverables to Stantec’s clients and ensure that all documentation adheres to client and company standards and expectations.
You will also work with the leadership team to support business development in areas of transport planning.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Supporting the technical delivery of transportation projects
- Producing Transport Assessments, Environmental Statements, Construction Traffic Management Plans, Travel Plans and other supporting transport documents in the context of the London planning and wider UK major infrastructure environment
- Undertaking transport studies and associated technical analysis
- Supporting junction modelling and analysis work
- Supporting highways design work, traffic management and understanding the consenting process
- Liaising with clients, design teams, local authorities and stakeholders
- Project and task management responsibilities for financial control and management
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members
This position offers strong opportunities for career progression and personal development, with mentoring and training support to help you further develop your expertise and work towards professional qualifications.
About You
- Degree qualified in transportation, geography, engineering or a related discipline
- Strong understanding of the UK planning system, with a focus on the London environment and major infrastructure
- Experience preparing Transport Assessments, Environmental Statements, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans, with junction modelling/analysis skills and use of relevant software
- Ideally experience in the role of project manager for small- to medium-sized single and multi-disciplinary projects
- Strong numerical ability, with experience managing project budgets and quality control
- Professionally qualified or working towards (or keen to achieve) a professional qualification such as TPP
- Proven track record in project delivery, client management and stakeholder engagement
