Principal Transport Planning

Principal Transport Planner

Location: Central London

Salary: £55,000+ (DOE)

Type: Full-time, Hybrid Working (2:3 or 3:2)

About the Role

A specialist transport planning and development planning consultancy is seeking a Principal Transport Planner to take on a leadership-focused role in their London office. This is a key appointment for someone with strong experience in:

  • Transport planning
  • Development planning
  • Transport Assessments
  • Transport Statements
  • Travel Plans
  • Advanced junction modelling (ARCADY/PICADY/Junctions 9/10/11)

This consultancy supports developers across the UK on:

  • Large strategic residential sites
  • Urban regeneration
  • Mixed-use schemes
  • Major planning applications

Responsibilities

As a Principal Transport Planner, the role involves:

  • Leading projects in:
    • Development planning
    • Transport planning (taking technical ownership)
  • Overseeing delivery of:
    • Transport Assessments
    • Transport Statements
    • Travel Plans
    • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) chapters
    • Supporting analysis
  • Leading junction capacity modelling using ARCADY/PICADY/Junctions 9/10/11
  • Mentoring and upskilling junior and mid-level planners
  • Building and maintaining client relationships, providing expert consultancy advice
  • Contributing to:
    • Work-winning
    • Fee proposals
    • Commercial management
  • Supporting the growth and direction of the transport planning team

Requirements

We are looking for:

  • An established background in transport planning, ideally within a consultancy
  • Strong technical expertise in development planning deliverables
  • Advanced experience in junction modelling (ARCADY/PICADY)
  • A confident communicator, capable of:
    • Leading client discussions
    • Envisioning project outputs
  • Ability to support team development and take a leadership role
