Lead nationwide modelling that protects communities
Purpose And Scope Of The Role
Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy is seeking a Principal Wastewater Modeller to lead technical delivery and team development across AMP8 and AMP9 wastewater programmes. You will define catchment strategies, lead hydraulic modelling and design inputs from feasibility through to detailed design, and take responsibility for HSE, quality and governance on multi‑million‑pound projects. Day‑to‑day you will oversee modelling standards, manage commercial performance and risk, develop bids and proposals, and represent the business to clients and delivery partners across London, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, Derby, and Warrington.
Your Impact In This Position
Immediately you will raise modelling assurance and guide complex catchment interventions. Over the medium term you will build and mentor high‑performing modelling teams, embed improved workflows and influence investment decisions that reduce pollution and flood risk. Longer term the role offers strategic influence over national modelling standards, the opportunity to innovate with digital tools and the chance to shape low‑carbon, resilient solutions across major water company frameworks.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
