Principal/Associate Planning and Socio-Economics Analyst / Business case practitioner

Our forward-thinking team in London (with UK-wide and international projects) is seeking a Principal/Associate Economist / Analyst with expertise in:

  • Local authority planmaking
  • Growth forecasting & socio-economic analysis
  • Housing & employment needs assessments
  • Infrastructure projects, including DCO and TWAO/EIA

This senior-level role offers career progression, project leadership opportunities, and the chance to make a tangible difference.


Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership

    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex economic and social projects
    • Lead and coordinate EIA (Environmental Impact Assessments), scoping studies, and consent documents
    • Provide technical critiques of economic and planning reports
    • Develop local plan evidence bases, including housing needs assessments and employment land reviews
  • Consenting & Bidding

    • Support and lead bid and tender preparation to secure new opportunities
    • Assist in expanding the business into new markets

  • Project & Stakeholder Management

    • Take on project leadership, from inception to delivery (bid to completion)
    • Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication
  • Mentorship & Growth

    • Guide and mentor junior team members
    • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain and advance expertise

About You – Key Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in economics, planning, geography, mathematics, or related field (postgraduate qualification preferred)
  • Evidence-based expertise in:
    • Local authority planmaking
    • Demand and supply forecasting (housing, employment)
    • Consenting and permitting processes
    • Infrastructure projects (national planning policy, regulatory requirements)
    • Economic impacts / business case development
  • Experience in bid writing and project tender submissions
  • Strong command of stakeholder engagement and client consultation
  • Appursonship with a professional body, such as RTPI or IEM, preferred

Skills & Attributes

  • Analytical acumen with excellent reporting and presentation skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly under pressure and deliver technical excellence
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confident client management
  • Collaboration and leadership in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, ensuring clarity and impact in both verbal and written outputs
  • Commitment to Continual Professional Development (CPD)
