Senior Software Engineer - Commodities Technology

We're seeking someone to join our Commodities Technology team as a Senior Software Engineer. We are looking for a talented and motivated Scala or Java senior software engineer to join our global team of Commodities technologists to help further our business growth strategy and evolve our technology platform.

About Morgan Stanley Commodities

Morgan Stanley Commodities delivers risk management solutions to our clients in global markets for Oil, Gas, Power, Metals, Agriculture and more. Commodities provide the materials to build and the fuels to energize the world we live in, as well as the food we eat.

Our business is constantly changing – the world’s energy needs evolve; new sources of energy are developed; markets relating to climate change are created; geopolitical changes affect market dynamics. As this happens, new trading products, market data, risk management tools, and regulatory concerns, all evolve and require new technology solutions. By joining the Commodities Technology team, you will have the opportunity to design and build the systems that support this fascinating business.

Our Team

Our London team is involved in all aspects of trading technology, from pre-trade pricing and trade lifecycle to risk management and market data. We work in a fully Agile environment, with close interaction with our users across the organisation. As a result, team members build up a good understanding of the business, front-to-back.

The work we do falls into two broad categories. First, we work on projects and systems aligned to the growth of the various commodity trading desks. This can be fast-paced, exciting work, as we react to the ever-changing business dynamics. Second, we are in the midst of a multi-year program to build our next generation front-to-back trading and risk management platform. In this role, you will have opportunity to work on both aspects.

In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
