Printer – Flexographic Printing Role

Job Description: Printer

We invite experienced flexographic printers to join our team in a responsible role where precision, quality, and safety are the foundation of excellence.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Reporting to: Production Manager
  • Machine: Bobst flexographic press (preference but not essential)
  • Shift Pattern: Rotating 3-week cycle (no weekends)
    • Week 1: 2 mornings, 1 off, 2 nights
    • Week 2: 3 nights consecutively, 6 days off
    • Week 3: 3 days, 2 off

You will lead and operate one or more flexographic machines whilst ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, environmental regulations, and production standards.


Responsibilities

You must demonstrate the following key competencies:

  • Machine Maintenance & Operations:
    • Set up and operate print machinery to optimum efficiency, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and housekeeping.
    • Log and immediately clean any spills to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Follow protocols to maintain BRC, ISO, and A2 permit compliance.

  • Production Quality and Compliance:

    • Fulfill print production orders while ensuring quality control via inspections and troubleshooting for non-conformities.
    • Collaborate with Technical and Quality teams for guidance on print issues.
    • Shoulder accountability for change requests, errors, and documentation (including electronic records).
  • Lean Manufacturing & Efficiency:

    • Implement lean principles, including 5S and SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Dies).
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Shift Handover & Press Management:

    • Conduct comprehensive shift handovers, documenting operational readiness for the next team.
  • Waste Reduction & Operator Accountability:

    • Optimise printing processes to minimise waste during runs, aligning with KPIs.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Certified or experienced Flexographic Printer (preferably with NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Print, or equivalent qualifications from City & Guilds).
  • Strong foundation in basic mathematics and literacy (equivalent to GCSE English and Maths).
  • Extensive flexographic printing experience—knowledge of plate mounting is a significant plus.
  • Proven understanding of quality control, HSE (Health, Safety & Environment), and manufacturing standards.
  • Physical robustness – the role involves lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with Bobst flexographic print machines.
  • Background in label or packaging manufacturing.
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma or similar improvement methodologies.
  • Additional certifications in fire safety, first aid, or audit compliance are advantageous but not mandatory.
