As an Operational Support Grade, you’ll be a crucial part of supporting the daily operations of a busy prison. The role includes a range of duties:
- Security and entry searches at the gate
- Managing deliveries
- Supervising visitors
- Monitoring phone calls and CCTV
- Visa escorting and escorting individuals
- Physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across the prison grounds
- Combination of desk work with hands-on duties
Transport & Travel
Some prison locations are in rural areas with limited public transport. While a driving licence and own transport are beneficial, they are not mandatory (unless specified). Employees are responsible for punctual start and finish times.

Licence Requirements
Applicants must hold a full, valid UK driver’s licence including Category D1, allowing:
- Vehicles with no more than 16 passenger seats
- A maximum length of 8 metres
- Trailers up to 750kg
