Prison Support Role – Operational Support Grade (OSG)
About the Role
Location: HMP Bullingdon Salary: £29,432 per year Employer: His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service
An extraordinary opportunity where your skills make a meaningful difference.
As an Operational Support Grade (OSG), you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and safe daily operation of a busy prison. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting security protocols, including handling entrances and gate searches
- Managing deliveries, visitor supervision, and credentialing
- Monitoring phone calls and CCTV for accountability and security
- Conducting escorted movements across prison grounds (including lifting, carrying, and driving коротко)
This role combines desk-based duties with hands-on work, requiring physical mobility and active participation.
Travel Considerations
- Prisons may be situated in rural areas, so transport options may be limited. Holding a full, valid UK driving licence is highly beneficial (except where specified otherwise).
- A Category D1 driving licence is not required in all cases but must include driving rights for vehicles:
- Up to 16 passenger seats / 8 metres length
- A trailer not exceeding 750kg
- Note: Fixed shift timings apply – candidates must arrange reliable transport to reach the prison promptly.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
