Position: Operational Support Grade (OSG) Location: HMP Erlestoke Salary: £30,491 Employer: His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service

As an Operational Support Grade (OSG), you’ll contribute vitally to the smooth and safe operation of a busy prison. This role blends desk-based and physical tasks, including:
- Supporting security operations at entry/exit points (e.g., searches, gate monitoring)
- Managing deliveries, logistical flows, and inventory
- Supervising visitor activities (cohort arrival/departure, interview scheduling)
- Observing and filtering phone calls or monitoring CCTV feeds
- Assisting with vehicle escort duties across the prison estate (lifting/carrying equipment, walking to locations)

Responsibilities
Key operational duties
- Provide frontline security and logistical responsiveness (e.g., gate operations).
- Maintain standards for prisoner movement permissions.
- Monitor deliveries, stock rotation, and waste management.
- Facilitate secure communication protocols for visitor/bookings processes.
- Support link scenarios such as medical emergencies, disruptions, or inter-prison transfers.
- Liaise with staff across multiple departments to uphold protocol.
Shift & Flexibility
- Variable shift patterns, including weekend and night hours to ensure 24/7 service continuity.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in sometimes chaotic environments.
- Composition ability: Familiarity with following and documenting procedures without apprehension.
- Psychological resilience: Maintain presence under stress while embodying fairness and impartiality.
Helpful credential
- No formal qualifications required, though some evidence of situational judgement or practical teamwork would benefit.
