Prison Support - HMP Erlestoke

Prison Support Role

Position: Operational Support Grade

Location: HMP Erlestoke

Salary: £30,491 per annum

Employer: His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service


About the Role

As an Operational Support Grade, you will play a key part in supporting the day-to-day operations of a busy prison.

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with security and searches at the gate
  • Managing deliveries and inbound consignments
  • Supervising visitors' intake
  • Monitoring phone calls and CCTV
  • Conducting escort duties across the prison grounds
  • Balancing desk-based tasks with physical activities such as lifting, carrying, and walking

This role involves a varied and active work schedule, combining administrative and operational tasks.

  • No formal qualifications required, but a strong communicative ability is essential
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Good judgement, common sense and team-player attitude are critical
  • Resilience to work various shifts, including weekends and nights

  • Base pay: £30,491
  • Foundational annual leave: 25 days, increasing to 30 days after 10 years of service (calculated prorata)
