Prison Support - HMP Grendon and Spring Hill

Prison Support Role

Location: HMP Grendon / HMP Springhill

Salary: £29,432

About the Role

As an Operational Support Grade (OSG), you will play a key part in supporting the day-to-day running of a busy prison. You’ll be part of a supportive team tackling a diverse range of tasks:

  • Conducting security and searches at the gate
  • Managing deliveries inside the prison
  • Supervising prisoner visitors
  • Monitoring phone calls and CCTV
  • Liaising with other prison staff and agencies

This varied role combines desk-based duties with physical tasks including:

  • Lifting and carrying heavy items
  • Escorting vehicles across the prison grounds

What’s Expected Of You

You don’t need qualifications, but you’ll need:

✅ Strong communication skills to manage escalations ✅ Ability to stay calm under pressure – this is a fast-paced environment ✅ Good judgement with common sense for safety-critical decisions ✅ A teamwork mindset – this role runs with full operational support

Protect the public by supporting daily prison operations and making an impact on lives by ensuring prisoner rehab processes run safely.

While this role limits direct prisoner contact (unlike officers), you’ll work closely alongside key prison staff – sometimes supporting inmates as needed by your assigned role.
