Prison Support - HMP Grendon and Spring Hill

Operational Support Grade (OSG) – HMP Grendon/Springhill

Salary: £29,432

About the Role

As an Operational Support Grade, you will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of a busy prison. Working as part of a supportive team, you’ll handle diverse tasks including:

  • Conducting security checks and searches at the gate
  • Managing deliveries
  • Supervising visitors
  • Monitoring phone calls and CCTV
  • Escorting vehicles across prison grounds and a variety of physical tasks (including lifting, carrying, and walking during shift duties)

This role combines desk-based work with hands-on activities in a fast-paced environment.

Shift & Driving Requirements

  • Must work adaptable shifts, including weekends and nights
  • Driving duties are essential—a full, valid UK driving licence is mandatory for this role at HMP Grendon and HMP Springhill.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay+: £29,432
  • Annual leave: 25 days on appointment, rising to 30 days after 10 years (calculated pro-rata)**
  • Holidays: 9 days bank, public and privilege leave
  • Skill Development: Paid Level 2 Apprenticeship in Customer Service
  • Pension access: Generous Civil Service scheme
