About the Role
Junior Operational Support Grade Location: HMP Isle of Wight Salary: £29,432
With His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service, this extraordinary role is for someone who thrives in high-energy environments and values stability, variety, and purpose.
What You’ll Do
By working at HMP Isle of Wight, you’ll support the daily operations of the prison—combining desk-based tasks with hands-on duties like:
- Handling security and Searches at the gate
- Managing deliveries, visitors’s permits, and post
- Supervising visitor sessions
- Monitoring phone calls and CCTV
- Conducting occasional prisoner interactions (limited compared to prison officers)
- Lifting, carrying and escorting inmates across the grounds
Driving is a core part of the role, so candidates must hold a full, valid UK driving licence.
You’ll also:
- Navigate a fast-paced environment
- Work across shifts including weekends and nights
- Contribute to keeping the prison running safely and efficiently
About You
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- No formal qualifications required, but you should have:
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
- Good judgement, common sense, and teamwork ability
