Prison Support Role – Operational Support Grade

Location: HMP Isle of Wight Salary: £29,432

Employer: His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service

About the Role

An extraordinary opportunity in a vital job, performed by someone like you.

As an Operational Support Grade (OSG), you will be a key part of maintaining the day-to-day operations of a busy prison. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting security at the gate
  • Conducting searches
  • Managing deliveries
  • Supervising visitors
  • Monitoring phone calls and CCTV
  • Conducting escort duties across the prison grounds

This role combines desk-based tasks with physical work, including:

  • Lifting and carrying
  • Walking to escort vehicles

What You’ll Do

As an OSG, you’ll work across a variety of shifts, including weekends and night shifts, ensuring smooth prison operations.

Unlike prison officers, your contact with prisoners is limited, although occasional interaction may occur depending on the setting.
