A fast-growing, technology-led healthcare business is seeking a Privacy & Commercial Counsel / DPO to join its legal team on a maternity cover contract.
This is a 9-month minimum maternity cover contract, starting late August or early September.
Location: Central London (hybrid working)
Reporting to: Head of Legal
Start date: August/ September 2026
Duration: 9 months+
The Role:
- Act as Data Protection Officer and lead UK privacy compliance.
- Advise on DPIAs, data transfers, incident response, privacy-by-design and broader GDPR matters.
- Liaise with regulators and support privacy governance programmes.
- Draft and negotiate privacy and commercial agreements with suppliers and partners.
- Provide practical legal advice on commercial matters and risk management.
- Deliver privacy training across the business.
- Manage a Data Privacy Manager.
- Support policy, template, and playbook development.
- Partner with senior stakeholders across multiple business functions.

Requirement:
- UK qualified lawyer with in-house experience.
- 3+ years PQE from a leading law firm and/or established in-house legal team.
- Strong knowledge of UK privacy and data protection law.
- Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Commercially minded with a pragmatic approach to legal risk.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, technology, or digitally regulated sectors is desirable.
- Exposure to health regulatory matters is desirable.
