Morgan Stanley, an evolutionary global leader in financial services, seeks a Privacy Compliance Director within its Data Governance & AI Non-Financial Risk team. This Director will support the Firm’s privacy program management, helping achieve legal, regulatory, and business compliance objectives through risk assessments, policy development, training, and governance collaboration.
About the Role
The Privacy Compliance Director will join the Legal & Compliance division, promoting fair, transparent, and lawful processing of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) across all Business Lines and Functions. This is a Director-level position, offering strategic ownership of privacy initiatives while collaborating with global stakeholders.
Positioned within Morgan Stanley’s robust Data Governance and AI Non-Financial Risk framework, the role demands a strong operational understanding of privacy frameworks, correlated risk assessments, and adoption of evolving regulatory landscapes (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, Gleneagle Code (Reg P), GLBA/FCRA).
What You’ll Do
Core Responsibilities

Program & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with privacy principles, risk methodologies, and internal controls
- Oversee Data Protection Officer (DPO) metrics, reporting, and program effectiveness

Privacy Impact & Risk Assessments
- Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for emerging technologies, systems, and AI applications
- Work with support functions to assess privacy risks tied to innovation

Advisory & Stakeholder Liaison
- Provide expert guidance to Privacy Business Unit Leads, Regional Control Functions, and cross-divisional teams
- Lead gap analysis for robust implementation of international and regional privacy protocols

What You’ll Bring
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent, measured by 5+ years’ relevant experience)
- 5+ years of experience in Privacy Compliance, Data Governance, or related fields
Technical & Regulatory Expertise

Proficiency in privacy laws and frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, Reg P, GLBA, FCRA, GLM, and regional/local regulations)

Knowledge of cross-border data transfers, data mapping, and technical privacy controls

Experience assessing emerging tech privacy risks, such as biometrics, geolocation data, mobile applications, and IoT

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint for reporting and collaboration)
Collaborative & Operational Skills
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to partner across teams to ensure smooth execution of initiatives
- Proactive problem-solving with strong attention to detail
- Capacity to pilot change in large, regulated environments
