Job Description

Purpose of the Role

To establish and nurture profitable partnerships with both corporate and individual clients. It's the bridge between the bank's offerings and clients' needs, ensuring mutual benefit and long-term success.

Accountabilities

  • Management of client relationships: Identify the clients' financial goals, challenges, and risk tolerance to support the analysis of data obtained from various sources, including the investment portfolio and cash flow, to identify trends, insights, areas for improvement, and additional services to support client needs.
  • Research and understanding: Research and understand the client's industry trends, regulatory landscape, and competitive environment to inform strategic recommendations.
  • Design of customised solutions: Design customised solutions that address the client's specific needs and objectives, incorporating a range of products and services from the bank's portfolio.
  • Communication of value proposition: Communicate the value proposition of proposed solutions, justify recommendations, and negotiate terms that are beneficial for both the client and the bank.
  • Provision of guidance: Provide guidance to clients to support their financial decisions, offering expert investment advice, risk management and wealth management strategies support, and updates on market trends to ensure a positive and continuous relationship.
  • Assessment of risks: Assess financial, legal, and operational risks associated with client relationships, and implement measures to minimise potential losses.
  • Documentation: Document all client interactions, transactions, and agreements to ensure transparency and auditability, and communicate findings effectively to support product development, service offerings, and the overall bank strategy.
  • Monitoring: Monitor client satisfaction, revenue generated, and other relevant metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of relationship management efforts.

  • Contribution to strategy: Contribute or set strategy, drive requirements, and make recommendations for change. Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies/processes; deliver continuous improvements and escalate breaches of policies/procedures.
  • Team management: If managing a team, define jobs and responsibilities, plan for the department’s future needs and operations, counsel employees on performance, and contribute to employee pay decisions/changes. Lead a number of specialists to influence the operations of a department, in alignment with strategic as well as tactical priorities, while balancing short and long-term goals and ensuring that budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
  • Leadership behaviours: If the position has leadership responsibilities, People Leaders are expected to demonstrate a clear set of leadership behaviours to create an environment for colleagues to thrive and deliver to a consistently excellent standard. The four LEAD behaviours are:

  • Individual contributor: If the position is an individual contributor, they will be a subject matter expert within their own discipline and will guide technical direction. They will lead collaborative, multi-year assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will train, guide, and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long-term profits, organisational risks, and strategic decisions.
  • Advising stakeholders: Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Risk management: Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda. Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work their team does.
  • Understanding of organisation functions: Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the organisation functions to contribute to achieving the goals of the business.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other areas of work, for business-aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategies.
  • Analytical thought: Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives. In-depth analysis with interpretative thinking will be required to define problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Research outcomes: Adopt and include the outcomes of extensive research in problem-solving processes.
  • Relationship building: Seek out, build, and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in order to accomplish key business objectives, using influencing and negotiating skills to achieve outcomes.

Join us as an Ultra-High-Net-Worth Private Banker within our growing Private Banking team based in London.

The Private Banking team offers bespoke banking and investment solutions to high-net-worth clients. Barclays Private Bankers act as trusted advisors to clients, providing bespoke banking services, lending, and wealth structuring, in addition to a world-class range of investment solutions and products across all asset classes.

Private Bankers are expected to identify, initiate, build, and maintain effective introductory relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure effective opportunity streams for new clients, assets, and revenues. In order to achieve this, you must be proactive in identifying and developing opportunity and must be accomplished in influencing others to create and grow effective partnerships across the organisation, and externally, to drive performance.

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of UHNW clients: Understand their financial goals and risk appetite.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients: Provide exceptional service and financial advice.
  • Conduct regular reviews of clients' investment and financial portfolios.
  • Become a key person and subject matter expert within the team: For banking products, credit advice, investment knowledge, and more complex client queries.
  • Deliver high-quality bespoke advice: Maximise value for clients and negotiate the best commercial outcome.
  • Identify and onboard new clients: Through networking, referrals, and strategic partnerships.
  • Develop and execute tailored strategies: To attract and retain wealthy clients in the region.
  • Attend client events, wealth management forums, and other high-profile gatherings in London.
  • Advise on portfolio management, estate planning, succession, and offshore structuring where relevant.
  • Keep clients informed on market trends, economic updates, and investment opportunities.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications

  • Previous experience: Working as a Private Banker with a client base with investable assets of a minimum of £20m within the Middle East market.
  • Client servicing and relationship management skills: With Ultra-High-Net-worth Clients and demonstrable experience in building and managing this client base.
  • Risk control and monitoring: Previous experience in controlling and monitoring of risk within a client book.
  • RDR qualification: Level 4 RDR qualified or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of global economic and political conditions: Current affairs, competitor activity, and the impact of these on clients.
  • Investments, banking, and trust concepts: Experience or demonstrated understanding of investments, banking, and trust concepts including, but not limited to: asset allocation on structured portfolios, managed portfolios, brokerage accounts, portfolio reviews, deposit and loan solutions, basic trust and estate products, and identification of wealth planning opportunities.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing business including regulatory and technological environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Excellent knowledge: Of regulated credit agreements/investment advice/deposits/portfolio management services/financial promotions.
  • Digital landscape understanding: High aptitude and understanding of the digital landscape, with the ability to effectively manage clients’ changing needs in this area.
  • Language skills: Arabic speaker.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in the role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.
