Private Wealth Team – Associate Position (NQ to 2PQE)
Background to the Firm
Ortus Group is collaborating with a leading mid-sized law firm based in Central London. The firm offers comprehensive legal services to businesses and private individuals, including:
- Multinationals
- Public and private companies
- Partnerships
- Public sector organisations
- Private clients
Private Client Services – Tax & Estate Planning
The Tax & Estate Planning Team is part of the wider Private Client Services Department, which covers family-related matters.
The team specialises in advising high and ultra-high net worth individuals and families, with a diverse client base:
- Traditionally ~60% UK-based, expanding with increasing international work (~40%)
- Services include:
- Trust and probate administration
- Inheritance and tax mitigation advice
- Capital gains & income tax planning
- Drafting and implementation of wills
- Trust creation and management
- Lasting power of attorney (LPA) probate & disability matters
- Charity administration and advice
- Full-range of Private Client Services, with a significant tax component (domestic and international).

Purpose of Role
The Associate for the Tax & Estate Planning Team will develop the practice by:
- Managing own files and collaborating on larger matters
- Operating with operational independence but paired with constant mentorship:
- Supervised by highly experienced partners
- Assisted by a dedicated Legal PA
- Opportunity to delegate work to Trainee Solicitors
Key responsibilities include client service, professional growth, and business development.
Responsibilities
To manage the day-to-day running of matters under direct partner supervision:
- Deliver a high-quality client service
- Complete work efficiently and to a commercial, professional standard
- Assist in supervising trainee solicitors
- Maintain SRA continuing education compliance, while actively staying updated on legal changes
- Provide competent, timely, and budget-conscious legal advice
- Time recording:
- Accurately log all time spent on cases
- Monitor and promptly bill recorded time
- Engage across all areas of practice, including case administration
- Contribute to knowledge management and efficiency improvements
- Strengthen client relationships
- Actively market services for the department and firm

Person Specification
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Competence in:
- Estate planning
- Trusts and tax (including cross-jurisdictional tax and estate planning)
- Strong drafting skills
- Excellence in relationship-building:
- Clients, colleagues, and external professionals
- Must be a confident, professional, and emotionally intelligent team player
- Business development interest:
- Keen to engage in departmental marketing initiatives
- Embodiment of firm values through consistent behaviours
