Role Purpose

This is a Senior Tax Compliance Manager position within our Private Client team responsible for managing high-value client portfolios in tax compliance and financial planning.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Client Management:

    • Own client portfolio, acting as the primary point of contact
    • Ensure MTD quarterly reporting, Final Declarations, and Self-Assessment returns are completed by filing deadlines.
  • Compliance & Efficiency:

    • Follow AAB Tax Compliance processes and internal workflows, including:
      • Utilising technology to enhance efficiency
      • Maintaining accurate client records
      • Updating real-time timesheets and work management tools diligently
  • Financial Oversight & Growth:

    • Manage own Work in Progress (WIP), assess proposals for new work, and propose fee structures including adjustments for additional services.
    • Identify opportunities for cross-selling relevant AAB services.
  • Performance & Mentorship:

    • Set internal targets for securing new business each year
    • Review and supervise work produced by junior team members
    • Provide one-to-one mentor support, career guidance, and training opportunities.
  • Technology Adoption & Change Embedding:

    • Support digitisation and process improvements across the team.
  • Advisory & Specialised Work:

    • Undertake ad hoc advisory tasks, such as:
      • CGT reporting, remuneration planning, CGT calculations, Trust registrations, IHT returns, etc.
    • Collaborate with Tax Advisory, BAG, and other Business Units as needed.
  • Internal Leadership:

    • Line manage junior team members, fostering their growth and contributing to their professional development.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • A relevant professional tax qualification (e.g., CA (Certified Accountant), ATT, CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser), STEP or equivalent).
  • 2–3 years’ post-qualification experience in a tax compliance Assistant Manager role or higher.
  • Specialised experience in:
    • Trust and Estate Tax Compliance
    • TRS (Tax Return Submission)
    • Trust administration
    • Inheritance Tax (IHT) Returns
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent technical research.
  • Proven reputation for managing client relationships effectively and achieving retention success.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in Estate Administration management.
  • Technical competence in applications like CCH Personal Tax, CCH Trust Accounts, and associated systems.
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced use) and Word.
