Private Companies Investment Specialist Manager

As a member of the Private Companies team, the Private Companies Investment Specialist Manager will bring their specialist industry knowledge and expertise to play a central role in the continued growth and development of Baillie Gifford’s Private Companies business.

Working closely with the Private Companies investment team and investment specialists, as well as our broader client contact and distribution colleagues, the successful candidate will develop a detailed understanding of the Private Companies strategy, portfolio, and pipeline, building the knowledge and credibility required to represent the strategy confidently with clients and prospects and support fundraising objectives globally.

The role combines building deep product and portfolio knowledge with active involvement in client engagement, prospect development, and capital raising activities. It requires a flexible and proactive approach, supporting fundraising and client engagement activities across different markets and time zones.

Initial priorities will include:

  • Developing deep knowledge of our dedicated Private Companies funds
  • Supporting near-term fundraising objectives
  • Delivering excellent client service to existing investors

Responsibilities

Investment & Product Expertise

  • Build and deepen knowledge of the Private Companies investment strategy, portfolio, pipeline, and team through close engagement with the investment team, fellow investment specialists, operations team, and independent research
  • Act as a credible investment specialist, supporting client meetings, presentations, and pitches

Business Development & Capital Raising

  • Collaborate with Business Development, Consultant, and Client teams to develop materials and insights that support fundraising efforts

Client & Prospect Engagement

  • Participate in client and prospect meetings, presentations, and due diligence sessions, developing deep knowledge and understanding of the portfolio, future investments, and market, with the ability to represent the investment team when required
  • Respond to enquiries from internal stakeholders, prospects, and existing clients accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ensure all client and prospect engagement complies with applicable regulatory requirements in each jurisdiction

Process, Reporting & Coordination

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of prospect activity, including warmth ratings and next steps, within the Private Companies prospect tracker and other CRM systems
  • Contribute to a high standard of client service for existing investors through written communications, reporting, and meeting support

Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience within private equity or broader private markets, either in an investment, investment specialist, investor relations, or capital raising capacity
  • A strong understanding of private companies investing and the factors that drive long-term value creation
  • Ability to distil complex investment concepts into clear and compelling messages for different audiences
  • Evidence of building credibility and influence with senior stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management skills
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines

This position has been deemed a Certified role within the FCA’s Senior Manager and Certification Regime. As a result, occupants’ details will be displayed on the FCA register, and both initial and annual fitness and propriety assessments must be completed.
