Job Description: Private Patient & Overseas Billing Co-ordinator

Job Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a fantastic role in our billing team within the Private Patient & Overseas department.

About the Role

As a Private Patient & Overseas Billing Co-ordinator, you will play a critical role in ensuring invoices are processed accurately and timely, supporting the wider Commercial Team.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with colleagues, clinical staff, and stakeholders to resolve any invoicing issues
  • Helping maintain smooth financial processes through proactive troubleshooting and collaboration

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative & Analytical Tasks

  • Run daily and monthly reports and perform simple analytics on spreadsheets
  • Manipulate raw data to create structured and understandable reports for decision-making
  • Ensure data integrity and clarity for use by the wider team

Financial & Operational Responsibilities

  • Maintain attention to detail when processing mixed task loads under stricted timelines
  • Support account processing, often under pressure while adhering to stringent deadlines

Detailed Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Budgetary planning and reconciliation of private/overseas interactions
  • Interface with financial systems for managing forecasting, variances, and costings
  • Act as a contact point for inquiries within the billing process

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Essential Criteria

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A–C, including English and Maths.
  • A Finance, IT or Business Administration qualification to Level 4 (e.g., AAT Technician) or equivalent knowledge/experience.
  • Intermediate Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, and MS Access databases.
  • Experience in:
    • Producing performance management information or financial reports
    • Data manipulation, statistical, interpretive, and analytical skills with complex datasets
    • Working in finance roles, including raising invoices via financial systems

Desirable Criteria

  • Preference for applicants with:
    • NHS experience
    • Advanced Excel skills
    • Knowledge of medical insurance processes
    • Understanding of UHS’ private patient and overseas billing systems
