Our global base includes clients buying and selling:

  • Family homes
  • City pied-à-terre
  • Country estates and cottages
  • Clients with international property interests
  • Landed estate owners
  • Residential developers
  • Both individual and commercial investors building up residential real estate portfolios

The Residential Property team advises both domestic and international clients on:

  • Buying and selling residential real estate
  • Residential development sites in the UK
  • Acquisition and holding of real estate assets (including foreign jurisdictions)
  • Tax-efficient structures for holding assets
  • Negotiating and appointing designers, architects, and other professionals
  • Obtaining necessary permits for properties
  • Advising on short-term rental agreements for landlords and tenants

Landed Estates

The team also works on:

  • Transactions involving estates, country houses, grouse moors
  • Commercial needs of landed clients
  • Innovative land use strategies (agriculture, commercial use, and development)
  • Agricultural tenancies
  • Boundary disputes
  • Land development projects involving leisure and tourism
  • Conservation and environmental considerations

The Role

The Private Property team has a high profile in both the landed estates and London residential property markets. We are recruiting for an Associate to join this pioneering team.

The team of over 20 lawyers—spanning multiple practice areas—provides multidisciplinary advice to landowners, including:

  • Private rural property owners
  • Includes historic estates with houses open to the public
  • Newly acquired farms

This role will require coverage of a mixed caseload involving all aspects of Residential Property work.

⚠️ Notably, the successful candidate must:

  • Have a passion for the property market
  • Demonstrate a technical understanding of property law
  • Capitalise on this opportunity to develop their career within a dynamic department

Key Skills and Experience

  • Currently admitted to practice in England & Wales (Pre-Qualification Examination –NQ opening stage or up to 3 years Post-Qualification Experience)
  • Strong experience in broad residential property transactions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective team player mindset
  • Enthusiastic, engaged, and relatable personality with solid interpersonal skills
  • Proactive and responsible, capable of forming strong relationships across the firm
  • Proficiency in technical nucleation, drafting, and research skills
  • Willingness to engage directly with clients (both internal and external)
  • Commercially minded and pragmatic thinking
  • Strong IT proficiency (example: Word and Excel)
  • Exceptionally strong academic record

The Essentials

  • Working hours: Mon-Fri 9.30am – 5.30pm
