Role Description

The Private Tutor will deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned lessons to small groups of students, providing targeted support in core subjects and exam preparation. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

The tutor will create a supportive classroom environment, manage group dynamics, and adapt teaching methods to diverse learning styles and needs. Additional duties include:

  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Collaborating with the founder and other tutors to refine teaching approaches
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of the tutoring program

This is a full-time, on-site role based in the London Area, United Kingdom.

Qualifications

  • Strong subject knowledge in core school subjects (e.g., Mathematics, English, Sciences) and familiarity with UK curricula and exam specifications.
  • Demonstrated teaching or tutoring experience, with the ability to plan structured lessons and differentiate instruction for varied abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and build rapport with young learners and families.
  • Classroom and group management skills, including creating a positive learning environment and maintaining focus in small group settings.
  • Organisational skills for lesson planning, progress tracking, and maintaining accurate student records.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusive practice, and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant subject area, or equivalent experience; recognised teaching qualification is an advantage.
  • Willingness to work on-site in the London Area and to align with SmartStepsTuition’s values of dedication, high expectations, and continuous improvement.
