PRN MRI Technologist
PRN MRI Technologist
As a PRN MRI Technologist, you will be responsible for producing cross-sectional images for medical interpretation using radiofrequencies within a magnetic field for diagnostic purposes. The role involves:
- Performing MRI procedures by acquiring and analyzing data for diagnostic purposes at the request of licensed practitioners.
- Independently completing or assisting with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures.
- Preparing, administering, and documenting activities related to contrast administration in compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies.
- Interacting with healthcare, clerical staff, patient families, and visitors through oral communication and electronic medical record documentation.
- Ensuring high-quality diagnostic imaging while maintaining compliance with policies and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
The role requires flexibility with availability, including prompt coverage for shifts as per a 30-day coverage policy.

Patient Safety & Procedural Execution
- Pre-screen patients for contraindications.
- Manage restricted access to MRI zones and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Demonstrate judgment, discretion, and aseptic injection technique in procedures.
- Provide oversight to MRI Technologist Assistants where required.

Imaging Quality & Compliance
- Produce high-quality diagnostic images adhering to company imaging protocols, RadSite Accreditation guidelines, and ARRT/ARMRIT practice standards.
- Maintain proficiency across different MR equipment and power injection systems.
- Implement process improvements and team-oriented approaches to meet/exceed customer expectations.

Communication & Professional Standards
- Maintain open, clear communication with radiologists, patients, and healthcare teams.
- Address concerns, solve issues, and resolve conflicts professionally.
- Uphold HIPAA confidentiality for patients, families, and staff.

Contrast Administration & Technical Competency
- Independently administer contrast agent safely, including peripheral IVs, ports, CVLs, and PICC lines when applicable.
- Demonstrate Akumin’s EMR system proficiency, as well as PACS and DICOM systems for image sharing and interpretation.

Training & Development
- Train and orient new technologists, patient coordinators, and assistants, either at sites or remotely through the command center.

- Perform other tasks as assigned by leadership.
Position Requirements
Educational & Credentialing
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
- Associate’s Degree or relevant equivalent experience preferred.
- ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT certification (allowed by contract, where applicable).
- State license, if applicable, required.
- CPR Certification (BLS from AHA or ARC).
- ACLS Certification (if applicable and applicable state).
- Valid state driver’s license (if required).
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of technologist experience required.
- Ability to work across multiple locations.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Proven organizational, multitasking, and critical thinking skills.
- Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
- Willingness to engage in local travel when required.

Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of MRI experience preferred.
- ARRT Magnetic Resonance Registry certification desired.
Physical Requirements
The role involves exposure to varied physical demands:
>50% of the Time
- Sit, stand, and walk frequently.
- Perform repetitive hand, arm, and leg movements.
- Requires seeing, speaking, and hearing to communicate effectively with patients.
<50% of the Time
- Stoop, kneel, or crawl occasionally.
- Climb and balance under normal conditions.
- Lift/carry (capable of transferring non-ambulatory patients from sitting/lying positions for exams).
Environmental Notes
- Possible exposure to outdoor weather conditions (if working with mobile units).
- Must withstand strong magnetic field environments.
- Risk of exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
