Successful candidates will start on £28,064 per year, with progression opportunities through annual pay reviews and a Competency Based Framework (CBF) that supports career development as competence grows.
Overview of the Role
The Probation Services Officer (PSO) is responsible for the full range of work with offenders in pre- and post-sentence phases. Duties include:
- Conducting assessments
- Implementing sentences as prescribed
- Managing offender caseloads
- Providing reports to courts
- Supporting offenders through practical interventions (employment, housing, social support)
- Maintaining professional judgment, working within statutory procedures and directives

Key Responsibilities
- Case Management: Supervise offenders with lower/medium-risk profiles on probation or licence terms
- Assessments & Reports: Produce accurate, timely reports for court assessments and risk evaluations
- Collaboration: Work with police, courts, and welfare agencies to support reintegration and safety measures
- Supporting Offenders: Address housing, employment, and psychosocial challenges

Basic Nationality & Employment Conditions

Writing skills are essential—Producing accurate, structured reports informs successful interventions.
