Automation Process Engineer – Ellab UK

Location: | Full-time

Ellab UK provides validation, monitoring, and automation solutions to life science and other regulated industries. We are seeking an Automation Process Engineer to design, deliver, and support automated process control systems across our UK customer base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, commission, and maintain automated process control systems
  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Diagnose and resolve control system faults and support process optimisation
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation (FDS, SDS, control philosophies, drawings)
  • Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, IQ/OQ/PQ and related project activities
  • Ensure compliance with quality, health & safety, and industry regulations
  • Contribute to change control, risk assessments, CAPA, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, quality, validation, maintenance, and project teams
  • Support preventative maintenance and provide technical training where required

Essential Requirements

  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent in Automation, Electrical, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or similar
  • Proven experience with industrial automation and process control systems
  • PLC experience (e.g. Siemens, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron, Schneider)
  • Knowledge of HMI, SCADA, industrial networks, and communication protocols
  • Strong fault-finding and root cause analysis skills
  • Able to read electrical drawings, P&IDs, and technical documentation
  • Experience commissioning automated equipment and manufacturing systems
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills
  • Capable of managing multiple projects and working independently or in teams
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites

Desirable

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, food, or other regulated industries
  • Knowledge of GMP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, and CSV
  • Experience with validation activities (FAT/SAT/commissioning/qualification)
  • Understanding of industrial cybersecurity
  • Project engineering/management experience
  • Experience with MES, historians, or data acquisition systems
