Job Title: Process Engineer

Location: Glascoed

Salary: Up to £45,177 (dependent on skills and experience)

Role Description

As a Process Engineer, you will develop and optimise manufacturing processes in line with engineering plans and budgets, ensuring solutions are robust, cost-effective, and meet customer expectations. You will apply industry-standard controls such as Lean principles, Process Control Plans, and PFMEA to maintain process stability, while supporting automated systems. The role includes specifying, installing, and qualifying equipment in collaboration with suppliers, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. You will coordinate development activities, manage process data within PLM systems, and support projects through reviews, capability studies, and Safe Systems of Work, while effectively communicating process performance and KPIs to stakeholders.

Core Duties

  • Develop existing and new manufacturing processes, in line with Engineering Plans and Budgets. Technical solutions and processes must be robust, timely, cost-effective and meet Customer expectations
  • Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with industry standards and controls that ensure long term process stability, including Lean Principles, Process Control Plans, PFMEAs; plus, awareness of Programmable Logic Controls and Visual Management Systems on automated process lines
  • Specify, qualify and install new equipment, often working with suppliers to meet tight deadlines ensuring all process equipment meets regulatory and safety standards
  • To coordinate development activities to establish supporting data that ensures the manufacturing processes are based on a sound understanding of the materials which are being processed and the technology adopted for the plant and equipment
  • To coordinate and manage a project data file capturing process and design information; to include, trials data, process definition (including drawings and specifications), certification and safety data. This data is to be controlled through the company’s Product Lifecycle Management system
  • Support project activities, to include process reviews, capability studies, and generate a Safe System of Work for given processes
  • Present to line management and other stakeholders (verbal and written) on topics relating to process status within development or production, e.g. KPIs

Essential Skills

  • You’ll have a minimum HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification
  • You’ll have a strong technical and manufacturing background, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work effectively under pressure
  • You’ll be able to prioritise a constantly varying workload while maintaining high quality standards and meeting deadlines
  • You’ll have experience in materials processing; holding an IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH Certificate would be advantageous

The Warhead Development Team

You will be integrated within the Warhead Development team to ensure project delivery. Working alongside the Portfolio Manager and reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that programme derivation and execution include appropriate engineering development activity to achieve a robust solution. The activities will be planned with robust estimates for completion with sound risk mitigation built in. The position will be primarily based at the BAE Systems Land UK site in Glascoed, Monmouthshire on a four-day working pattern within a hybrid-working environment where suitable, with travel to other customer, manufacturing and test and evaluation sites also being necessary.
