The Opportunity
Ready to move beyond your graduate programme and lead the next wave of sustainable water solutions?
You've built a strong foundation in process engineering. Now, it's time to accelerate your career and apply your expertise to the world’s most urgent water challenges. At Stantec, we’re not just designing treatment plants; we're crafting a resilient future, from source to tap and drain to river.
The Stantec Story: Progress, Impact, and Opportunity
This is your opportunity to join a top-tier global team consistently recognised for its commitment to sustainability and culture. We're seeking Ambitious Process Engineers - whether your passion lies in cleanwater resilience or wastewater recovery and environmental protection - who are ready to take on more responsibilities and drive innovation. The role will be based from our office in Redditch.
The Role: Process Engineer
You will join our integrated, national team, working on high-impact projects that span the entire water cycle across the UK & Ireland. We're looking for engineers who are ready to transition from foundational roles to project leadership and technical specialisation.
The Cleanwater Journey
- Help secure long-term water supply through strategic resource options (SROs)
- Design state-of-the-art treatment facilities
- Pioneer source-to-tap solutions for emerging contaminants like PFAS
The Wastewater Journey
- Focus on achieving ambitious environmental goals
- Design advanced treatment for nutrient removal
- Optimise asset performance
- Implement schemes that champion resource recovery (energy, heat, and materials)
Your progression won't be linear—it will be bespoke. We see this role as a clear pathway to becoming a Chartered Engineer, a recognised technical specialist, or a future project leader. You’ll be mentored by industry leaders and given the autonomy to take ownership of challenging work.
Your Day-to-Day Impact
You will be involved in the full project lifecycle, operating as a key technical contributor:
- Technical Excellence: Lead process design development, perform hydraulic analysis, develop mass balance models, and prepare technical reports and specifications.
- On-Site Experience: Conduct site investigations, lead asset optimisation studies, and perform essential on-site test work (e.g., jar testing, pilot plant trials).
- Client Collaboration: Work directly with UK water utility clients, helping to shape business plans and translate strategic needs into viable engineering solutions.
- Global Networking: Engage with our "one team" global community, sharing knowledge and applying international best practices to local challenges.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
