The Opportunity
Clean, safe water is something most people rarely think about, yet behind every treatment works is a team of engineers solving some of the UK's biggest environmental and infrastructure challenges. At Stantec, our Process Engineers are helping water companies deliver cleaner rivers, more resilient water supplies and sustainable treatment solutions that will serve communities for generations to come.
We're looking for a Process Engineer to join our growing Water team based in High Wycombe or Reading. Whether your expertise lies in clean water or wastewater treatment, you'll become part of a collaborative national process engineering team delivering some of the UK's most significant water infrastructure projects. From improving treatment performance and supporting strategic water resource schemes to developing innovative solutions for emerging contaminants and environmental compliance, you'll have the opportunity to work on diverse, technically challenging projects while continuing to develop your expertise alongside some of the industry's leading specialists.
About The Role
In this role, you'll contribute to the delivery of projects across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design, commissioning and operational support. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients and contractors to develop practical, sustainable process solutions that improve treatment performance and deliver long-term value.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Developing process designs, mass balances, hydraulic calculations and technical reports.
- Supporting the design and optimisation of clean water and wastewater treatment processes.
- Undertaking site visits, investigations and process performance assessments.
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
- Supporting client engagement by translating operational challenges into effective engineering solutions.
- Contributing to technical innovation and continuous improvement across the process engineering team.
YOUR IMPACT
The work you deliver will directly influence the quality, resilience and sustainability of water infrastructure across the UK. Your designs will help clients improve operational efficiency, meet increasingly demanding environmental standards and provide safe, reliable water services for millions of people.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
