Mechanical Technician – WastewaterRole

Closing Date: 16 July 2026 Location: Fullerton, Hampshire (with travel across multiple sites required)

  • Current full UK driving licence mandatory
  • Willingness to attend on-site locations

Contract: Permanent (38 hours per week)

Salary: £38,247.41–£45,896.13 per annum (dependent on skills/experience)

About the Role

Join Southern Water’s Wastewater Team and take responsibility for maintaining and repairing:

  • Wastewater treatment works
  • Sludge centres
  • Pumping stations

Ensure regulatory compliance with environmental, quality, and safety standards while driving continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • ✅ Undertake reactive and planned maintenance of essential plant and equipment (pumps, motors, gearboxes, diagnostics).
  • ✅ Install new plant/equipment as required.
  • ✅ Respond urgency-first to alarms/failures—troubleshoot, fix, or escalate issues.
  • ✅ Conduct inspections and testing on mechanical systems (follow company procedural standards).
  • ✅ Provide technical guidance to internal teams, contractors and ToR (Terms of Reference) signatories.
  • ✅ Update company databases and systems accurately (document faults, reporting cycles).
  • ✅ Participate in standby cover, adhering to a 1-in-6 rota.

Essential Requirements

✔ Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering/Practical Engineering (with original certificate). ✔ Current full UK driving licence. ✔ Strong problem-solving and ability to manage under pressure without direct supervision.

(Desirable)

✔ Prior experience within the water industry. ✔ Advanced knowledge of:

  • Pumping station mechanics
  • Wastewater treatment processes. ✔ Awareness of current Health & Safety & Environment Legislation.
