Water Supply Operations Technician
Closing Date: 2026-07-13 Location: Otterbourne, Hampshire (with flexible travel to multiple sites and requirement for a current full UK driving licence) Contract Type: Permanent Hours: 38 hours per week
- Monday to Wednesday: 8:00–16:30
- Thursday & Friday: Up to 15:30 finish
Salary: £40,860.92 – £48,509.64 per annum (based on skills and experience)

About the Role
Join Southern Water’s Water Supply Team and play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing water supply infrastructure—including plants, reservoirs, and booster stations—ensuring environmental safety, water quality, and compliance with legal and budgetary targets.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Reactive and planned maintenance of equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, starters, and variable speed drives (VSDs)
- Installing and commissioning new plant and equipment, adhering to company standards and health & safety regulations
- Troubleshooting alarms and diagnosing faults, rapidly resolving issues or escalating when necessary to minimise downtime and environmental risk
- Performing inspections and testing on mechanical and electrical systems, following statutory and company procedures
- Supporting technical teams (internally and externally) to ensure safe, efficient maintenance work
- Updating internal systems with accurate records on maintenance, faults, and compliance documentation
- Driving continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance operational reliability, efficiency, and sustainability

Additional Requirements
- Standby rota required (1 in 6 basis) to cover urgent operational shifts
What You’ll Bring to the Role
Essential
- Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering (with certificates)
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively under pressure
Desirable
- Industry experience in water/wastewater operations
- Deep understanding of pump systems and water treatment processes
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation
