Process Technician

Technician – Industrial Pilot Plant Support

Brightsmith are representing a climate technology company specialising in processes to recover and reuse high-value materials from industrial waste, majorly impacting sectors like sustainable manufacturing and aerospace. We are currently seeking a hands-on, problem-solving technician to collaborate on the build, commissioning, and operation of our early-stage industrial pilot plant.

Ideal for a practical, detail-oriented professional who thrives in fast-paced environments, this role requires troubleshooting, equipment installation, and ensuring smooth functioning while supporting innovative experimentation.


Key Responsibilities

Build & Commissioning

  • Install and set up mechanical and process equipment (e.g., pumps, pipework, valves).
  • Support system testing and commissioning activities, ensuring alignment with project specifications.
  • Fabricate and adapt components such as brackets, supports, or fixtures as needed.
  • Work closely with engineers and external contractors during plant assembly.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Operate plant equipment during process trials, monitoring performance and environmental conditions.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, servicing and basic calibration to sustain system reliability.
  • Diagnose faults and implement root-cause solutions efficiently.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment.

Trial Support

  • Prepare equipment and materials for experimental runs.
  • Assist with trial execution, including real-time monitoring and data/sample collection.
  • Provide practical feedback and observations to drive process improvements.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to and contribute to safe working practices within a safety-critical environment.
  • Identify and report hazards or issues promptly.
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance and plant status updates.

Experience & Requirements

Technical Ability & Problem-Solving

  • Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude, gained through apprenticeships, training or practical experience.
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment, plant systems, or mechanical installations.
  • A practical, structured approach to fault-finding and troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in process/critical safety environments under pressure.

Trained & Practical Mindset

  • Self-motivated, adaptive, and proactive in a dynamic setting.
  • Technical training, such as an apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience in process industries (e.g., chemicals, pharma, food & beverage).
  • Hands-on exposure to pipework, pneumatics or fluid handling systems.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems or instrumentation preferred.
