Bakery Process Technologist (Application Specialist)
Location Fringford
Shift Monday to Friday (core hours are 08:30 – 17:00)
Salary: Competitive range of £45,000 to £55,000 (based on experience)
About the Role
Referred to internally as the Application Specialist, this Bakery Process Technologist will play a principal technical role at the interface between Puratos and major bakery and chocolate customers. Join our team and help deliver innovative food solutions that enhance the success of our customers.
Your Mission
The Process Technologist’s core mission is to develop business for key industrial accounts through technical expertise when partnering with Business Development.
Duties include:
- Collaborating with key accounts to manage projects, implementing innovative solutions, and troubleshooting.
- Supporting R&D Managers with formulation development in new product innovation.
- Acting as a Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) for specified customer accounts.
Key Responsibilities
Delight Customers
- Understand and address customer needs.
- Evaluate and resolve technical problems, providing tailored solutions.
Develop and Launch New Products
- Develop finished goods from the lab to full-scale plant operations.
Business Development Activities
- Identify and manage new opportunities alongside the Key Account Manager.
- Support strategic planning.

Technical Knowledge Sharing
- Develop and share expertise in processing technology and bread (ingredient + equipment).
- Educate teams on health, sustainability, and technical practices.
- Participate in technical training sessions.
- Oversee quality control and testing protocols.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and updates from headquarters.
Support R&D Innovation
- Translate creative concepts into actionable product solutions.
- Contribute to equipment structuring for the R&D Innovation Center.
- Backup R&D Manager as required.
Network Building
- Visit and maintain relationships with key customer technical teams.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Operations, and Sales teams.
- Establish external contacts in the food equipment sector.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Industrial or In-Store Bakery operations.
- Proven expertise in bread formulation, processing, and customer relationships.
- Technical knowledge covering all product processing chains.
- Ability to travel 40% of the time (domestically and internationally).
- Open to flexible working hours.
- Must hold a valid driving licence and a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Confidence in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP tools.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to articulate ideas and solutions.
